As you have read in Tomas’s latest blog South African Dr. Sonnet Ehlers has created the perfect woman’s revenge on rapists. I believe this a great idea to drop the number of rape victims and the spread of STDs in South Africa.

My concerns are the same as Tomas’s however. How easy is it to remove the condom? If it is easy to take out, there could be a good chance that the rapist could stick his finger down there first, feel it, and take it out. What if there are more than one man? If a woman is getting gang raped and one of the men gets injured that could enrage the group into harming her more than they had originally planned. I guess those are those “what if” questions that really cant be answered until they happen.

Over all I do think it is a wonderfully empowering idea for woman in South Africa that have been beaten down by the fear of rape for years. I know personally if I had a chance to own one and I would if I lived in a place were 28 percent of men have admitted to raping a woman or girl (according to Human Rights Watch’s 2009 Survey).

This remarkable female condom may also help countless other woman all around the world if this works to its full potential.
