Enjoying the Fireworks
I wanted to backtrack a little and focus some more on the “Firework” video by Katy Perry. I know this blog is long overdue, but I just wanted to express how inspired some of the other peer youth educators and I were after seeing the music video.
The video touches on some very important aspects in today’s society—ranging from people struggling with cancer, weight issues, etc. It also touches on an aspect that I find incredibly inspirational—the infamous kiss between two men. Apparently, the video was banned in the UK just because of that kiss. It’s amazing, to me anyway, that we are still living in a time where we have so much freedom of expression, except when it comes to expressing our sexuality. I digress.
The “Firework” video makes the point that no matter where you are on your walk of life, you still deserve to be treated equally, and you still are capable of incredible things. No matter who you are, what you’re dealing with, who you love, or how you express yourself, you are priceless; you are destined for greatness! All you have to do is believe in yourself, let go of ALL of your doubts, and feel free to shine.
Katy Perry says it best:
“You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow…”
